Fr Roberto Castillo
Fr Roberto Castillo
  • Father Roberto was born in Managua the capital of Nicaragua, a small country in Central America on the 24th August 1959.
  • His father was the second of seven children; he worked as a lawyer and high school teacher, and held a very important position in the Education Department back in Nicaragua. He passed away a few years after he migrated to Australia.
  • His mother was the eldest of ten, learnt sewing when she was young and later on worked as a primary teacher.
  • Like the majority of Nicaraguans, Roberto was brought up in a Catholic environment.
  • Roberto studied his first years at the La Salle College and finished High School at a private School.
  • He learnt a bit of guitar and used to help with the music in his parish ×îÐÂÂ鶹ÊÓƵ. He was also a very active member of the youth group.
  • He then became a primary teacher where he worked for 5 years in some of the poorest suburbs of the capital Managua. He lived for 6 months with the poorest farmers teaching them reading and writing skills.
  • He studied one year of Banking and Finances and one year of Spanish, but he did not find fulfilment in this type of studies.
  • Feeling called by God to priestly vocation since he was a little boy, he decided to go to the National Seminary where he studied for more than five years until he decided to travel to Australia to join his family who were already living in Sydney.
  • In Australia he learnt English, resumed his studies and finished his Degree in Theology and was ordained a priest by Cardinal Clancy on the July 3 1999 in the parish of Revesby.
  • He has worked as an assistant priest and administrator for 10 years in a good number of parishes including: Sutherland, Central Bankstown, Miranda, Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Darlinghurst, Brighton le Sands and Bass Hill. In his last appointment he spent 3 years in the neighbouring Parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gladesville.
